Senior QA Lead

We are looking for someone who:

Is a talented, responsible, lead QA engineer who is passionate about product quality
Loves QA methodology, best practices and test-driven development
Is enough of a developer in multiple languages/platforms to be dangerous (or at least to test our products well)
Thrives in an environment with lots of change, who is excited to learn and likes to test their mettle
Can multi-task and “own” the QA process for all three of Aptana’s product suite
Excels at picking up new languages and technologies as the Aptana product suite expands even further

The Opportunity:

Work as the lead QA engineer at a company that already has traction in the market and (effectively) thousands of volunteer testers
Establish process and best practices with the in-house support and resources to "do it right"
Promote an environment where the entire team creates reliable, bug-free code - the first time around
Help build a small, top-notch QA team and establish and refine QA best practices
Collaborate with a team of productive, smart, energetic, passionate engineers

Responsibilities:

Test multiple products on multiple operating systems and their integration
Work directly with developers to author test cases
Establish a rapport with our engineering team and create a QA process that they buy into and support
Identify, report and track issues in a bug tracking system
Perform manual testing as required
Evaluate, select and integrate third party testing tools
Author code to automate written test cases to aid in regression testing
Realistically manage the tradeoffs between quality control and the need to ship product to hungry customers
Find new ways to leverage our numerous users to identify bugs and improve product quality

Qualifications:

Previous experience building a QA discipline at a startup from the ground up
Strong work ethic
Superlative analytical skills
Take pride in your work
Coding/testing experience with most of the following: HTML, CSS, PHP, JavaScript and Ruby on Rails, Python and various web technologies

The Aptana Cloud team is chartered with defining, designing, implementing, and managing the Aptana Cloud offering, including APIs and infrastructure to support multiple cloud server and service providers, management applications and tooling, and integration facilities. Key positions are available on this team. If your skillset and passions fit some significant subset of the following list, please get in touch – we are looking for a few brilliant, versatile, driven individuals as we prepare to launch our 1.0 offering.

We are looking for someone who has experience :

With virtualization and abstraction of APIs at many levels
Deploying to top-notch cloud server providers: Amazon, Google and others
Developing rich web applications, utilizing the latest frameworks and technologies for Ruby and Java. Python a plus
Setting up and/or building powerful, distributed management, monitoring and reporting tools
Solving complex problems relating to distributed computing
Working with databases on a large scale
Building, assembling and administering OS + software systems of many different sorts

And is excited about:

Architecting extremely reliable and scalable web services
Working in collaboration with a small team of passionate, experienced developers who are working to change the way web applications are managed and deployed by millions

Areas and systems of interest:

The software stack of virtual servers (web, DB, app server, etc.)

Systems Engineer

Would rather write automation code than do anything manually, who sets up OpenSNMP and Nagios on every machine on the network just to play and compare, who knows when to write an elegant object-orented library and when to just throw together a simple script, who doesn’t have ‘can’t be done’ in their vocabulary? Then this could be the perfect job for you!

We are looking for someone who:

Loves to write and build large-scale deployment systems
Really understands flexible yet solid processes for build/release and CI
Can not only build release and deployment systems, but also a lot of other systems and glue - source control, pieces of the cloud infrastructure, monitoring, deployments, management consoles, etc.
Is a creative, versatile, and hands-on systems developer

The Opportunity:

Be a part of building infrastructure that will define the next generation of web application development
Own the servers and systems infrastructure that make all of Aptana’s products and services tick

Responsibilities:

Manage entire build/test/package/release systems and processes across all products/services
Manage source control systems
Provision systems and update software on all servers and server farms
Work with new initiatives and with partners on lots of cool things we can’t even think about yet

Desired Qualifications:

Outstanding Linux+Windows strengths (and Mac OSX desirable)
Strong/versatile developer with skills in Python, Java, Perl, Databases, Version Control (esp. svn)
Experience in server farm instrumentation

Senior Web Developer

We are looking for someone who:

Loves web development, and is fascinated with what's going on in Web 2.0
Is interested in finding ways to make web development easier.
Is interested in building an incredibly dynamic and empowered online community that promotes learning and sharing
Is wise enough to know when to re-use and/or hack existing web site components to do what's needed versus writing them anew
Insists on keeping their hands dirty and building cool stuff
Someone who likes to poke around with new tools and technologies, but who also knows how to put their head down and get stuff done
Someone who could build the equivalent of a web-based iTunes on their own

The Opportunity:

Create a community based website for the massive "Web 2.0" or Ajax developer community to:

share experiences
learn new development techniques
provide feedback on our products
helps establish Aptana as a thought leader

Responsibilities:

Create a website that captures and retains the attention of busy developers.
Choose the framework for the community site and code it from the ground up. (write lots of code)
Interface with users to figure out what they want and hack it in
Ensure the site integrates seamlessly with Aptana Studio
Own our corporate website
Collaborate with and/or manage interaction and visual designers to ensure ease of use.
As much as possible, use our own tools to build and maintain the site (i.e. eat our own dog food)

Desired Qualifications:

At least 6 years experience developing websites using the latest and greatest tools: PHP, Ruby on Rails, mysql, Ajax, Javascript, CSS, dynamic languages, wikis, bug tracking systems, open source development, blog tools, code sharing, feeds, RSS, mashups, etc.
Very strong technical acumen and aptitude
Passion for building community oriented websites
Strong work ethic
A strong sense of "what works" on the web that is informed by experience.
